D&T – Cooking and Nutrition

In Cooking and Nutrition units, children learn where food comes from and how to make healthy dietary choices. They explore the origins of various foods and use nutritional information to plan balanced diets, understanding the role of different nutrients in health.

They also develop practical cooking skills, focusing on safe food preparation and hygiene. Pupils learn to follow recipes, use kitchen equipment properly, and create dishes for specific purposes, such as healthy meals or special occasions. This hands-on experience helps them appreciate food’s role in daily life and empowers them to make informed choices about what they eat.
