The Broad Areas of Need

As a mainstream school, the majority of our pupils are expected to reach expected outcomes for their age. However, a number of our pupils do have special educational needs and/or disabilities. Children with SEND have needs in the following four broad areas:

  • Cognition and learning
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
  • Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD)
  • Communication and interaction
  • Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties
  • Social, Emotional Difficulties
  • Mental Health Difficulties
  • Sensory and/or Physical Difficulties
  • Gross Motor and Fine Motor Difficulties
  • Hearing Impairments

Within Bricknell, we adhere to the statutory guidance outlined within the SEND Code of Practice (2014) to ensure that all of our children’s needs are met. For more information on how we support medical needs, disabilities and specific learning needs, please contact our SENDCo, who will be happy to discuss this in more detail.

The Local Offer website (below) outlines a range of support, advice and information for parents of children with Special Educational Needs across Hull.
