D&T – Textiles

In Textile units, children develop essential technical skills for working with textiles, including stitching, sewing, and threading. They start by learning the basic techniques, practising different types of stitches and understanding how to join fabrics securely. This hands-on experience helps them build the confidence needed to handle textiles with precision and creativity.

Alongside acquiring these practical skills, pupils explore a variety of textile designs, studying how different patterns, textures, and materials can be used to create products that are both functional and visually appealing. They learn about the process of designing for a specific purpose, such as making a bag, cushion, or decorative item, ensuring that their products are not only stylish but also practical. By applying their newfound skills and design knowledge, children create their own unique textile products, taking pride in transforming their ideas into finished items that reflect both their technical abilities and artistic vision.
