Year 5: Key physical features
Overall Objective: To explore and understand the key physical features of rivers, including how they are formed, and the physical processes that shape the land through erosion, transportation, and deposition. Pupils will develop a deeper understanding of how rivers flow, change course, and affect the landscape around them. By examining different sections of a river, such as the source, meanders, and mouth, students will grasp the important role rivers play in shaping the environment.
Learning Outcome: Pupils will be able to identify and describe the key features of a river, such as the source, channel, and mouth. They will also be able to explain the physical processes, like erosion and deposition, that shape the land and contribute to the formation and development of river landscapes. By the end of the lesson, pupils will understand how rivers interact with the surrounding environment and influence the geography of the land over time.
