EYFS – Science

In EYFS, the children had a magical time conducting an exciting experiment as part of our witches and wizards topic! The young scientists were eager to see what would happen when we mixed bicarbonate of soda with vinegar, creating a "magic potion" reaction.

Launchpad – Science

In Science, some of the Launch Pad children have begun an exciting journey into learning about the seasons! To kick off our exploration, we introduced the topic with a hands-on sensory experience, allowing the students to immerse themselves in the sights, sounds, smells, and textures of each season.

Year 6 Science

Year 6 students have been exploring how light travels in straight lines and how it can be reflected, absorbed, or blocked by different materials. To put their learning into action, they got hands-on by creating their own periscopes and shadow puppets. Building periscopes was a fun and engaging way for the students to see how light reflects off mirrors, allowing them to look around corners and over obstacles. They carefully positioned the mirrors inside [...]

Year 5 Science

Year 5 had an out-of-this-world experience during their visit to the National Space Centre! The trip was a fantastic opportunity for the students to expand their knowledge about Earth and space while exploring fascinating exhibits and interactive displays. From the moment they arrived, the students were captivated by the wonders of the universe, learning about planets, stars, galaxies, and the incredible technology used to explore space. They had the chance to walk through the [...]

Year 4 Science

Year 4 have been diving into the exciting world of electrical circuits in class! The students have been busy learning to identify and name the essential components that make circuits work, including cells, wires, bulbs, switches, and buzzers. It’s been a hands-on experience, with the children eagerly building their own simple circuits to see how electricity flows and powers different components. [...]

Year 3 Science

Year 3 students enjoyed an enriching science visit to Normanby Hall, where they delved into the fascinating world of plants. Surrounded by the beautiful gardens and woodlands, the trip provided the perfect opportunity for hands-on learning and exploration of nature. During the visit, the children learned how to identify a variety of plants, from towering trees and colorful flowers to tiny mosses and ferns. They practiced using identification guides to recognize different species and [...]

Year 2 Science

Year 2 had a fantastic day out at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, where they explored the wonders of the animal kingdom and discovered the fascinating world of different habitats. The students were thrilled to encounter a wide variety of animals, from majestic big cats and playful primates to exotic birds and curious reptiles. Each stop on the tour offered new insights into how these animals live, adapt, and thrive in their natural environments. [...]

Year 1 Science

Recently we had an exciting visit from Ian's Farm, bringing the world of animals right to our school! The students had an amazing time meeting a variety of animals and learning firsthand about their characteristics and behaviours as part of their study on animals. As part of their animal studies, the students had the chance to get up close with some amazing creatures, including a friendly donkey, playful goats, a curious tortoise, a lively [...]

Nursery Science

We have taken a closer look at pumpkins, using our senses to explore their vibrant color, varied textures, and distinct smell. By employing magnifying glasses, the students examined the intricate details of the pumpkin's flesh and seeds, gaining a deeper understanding of its structure. In addition, we are conducting an ongoing observation of the pumpkin's natural decay process, noting the changes that occur over time. To enhance our investigation, we compared a small and [...]
